Expressions of Interest for A Bit Of A Do 2021
Drunken Chorus are currently programming artists and companies for the 2021 edition of A Bit Of A Do – our annual festival of theatre, dance and cabaret at Stanley Halls in South Norwood.
A Bit Of A Do is an inclusive and accessible festival, featuring work by disabled and non-disabled artists. The festival will take place over two weekends: 19-21 and 26-27 November 2021.
We want to hear from artists and companies whose work we might not already be familiar with.
For our first instalment of the festival since the Covid pandemic, we will present a hybrid programme of live and digital work. We are therefore particularly interested to hear from artists with work that can reach audiences who are unable to attend the festival venue in person – through alternative, innovative and playful digital methods / platforms.
We are interested to hear from:
Both disabled and non-disabled artists
Artists / companies working in theatre, dance, cabaret and/or comedy
Artists / companies whose work is ready to be presented to a public audience
Artists / companies whose work is live, digital or a hybrid
All performances for the festival must be:
‘Finished’ / ready to be presented to a public audience
Of a professional standard
Complete with copy and images for marketing
We are particularly interested to hear from artists who are:
Creating work that is contemporary, experimental or outside the mainstream
Exploring exciting new ways to reach audiences who cannot attend arts venues in person
Living / working in the London Borough of Croydon
Disabled
Neurodiverse / neurodivergent
Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Visually impaired
From groups who are under-represented in the arts, including people from working class backgrounds and ethnic minorities.
Artists can propose performances of any duration – from short cabaret pieces, to full length shows and durational work.
Past artists have included Touretteshero, Candoco, Lanre Malaolu, Caroline Parker, Moxie Brawl and Levantes Dance Theatre
All artists are paid a fee for their work, and all performance will be interpreted in British Sign Language.
The festival is fully accessible, with step free access and support for disabled, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and visually impaired artists.
