A Bit Of A Do is festival of theatre, dance and cabaret by disabled and non-disabled artists, produced by Drunken Chorus.
For the 2021 installment of the festival we will provide 7 disabled artists / companies with the opportunity to present a short performance idea at the closing night of the festival.
3 of these artists will then be selected to receive development support to turn the idea into a finished performance for the festival in 2022.
This support will include:
3 mentoring sessions with an established artist;
1 week of rehearsal space at a London venue;
A bursary of £1,000 towards the project;
Advice sessions from the Drunken Chorus team;
Access support (eg BSL interpreters).
Artists are invited to submit their proposals for short performance ideas by 12pm on Friday 22 October 2021.
Proposals are welcome for work that is:
15 minutes or less in total length;
Low tech (at least for the initial sharing);
In the early stages of development;
Contemporary performance: dance, theatre or cabaret;
Created by disabled led artists and/or disabled led companies
We are particularly keen to hear from:
Artists creating work that is contemporary, experimental or outside the mainstream
Artists who are exploring exciting new ways to reach audiences who cannot attend arts venues in person
Artists / companies living / working in the London Borough of Croydon
Deaf and Hard of Hearing artists / companies
Visually Impaired artists / companies
Artists / companies from groups who are under-represented in the arts, including people from working class backgrounds and ethnic minorities.
A Bit Of A Do festival takes place at Stanley Arts in South Norwood (Croydon, London).
All artists will receive £50 contribution towards expenses for performing at the festival.
Timescale
22 October 2021: Deadline for submissions
27 October 2021: Artists notified
28 November 2021: Short performances at A Bit Of A Do 2021
December 2022: Artists selected for development support
March 2022: Artist support period begins
November 2022: Final performances at A Bit Of A Do 2022

All submissions must be received by 12 noon, Friday 22 October 2021. Late applications will not be considered.
